Cricket is a generative music remixing system built on the premise that any music archive can become raw material for infinite new sequences. The pipeline ingests audio, separates it into stems via Demucs, extracts feature vectors through FluCoMa and Essentia, and recombines material in real time through Max/MSP — outputting a continuous broadcast with no fixed tracklist. Users interact through a minimal terminal interface with uploadable skins, making the system as customizable as it is austere. At the center of each session sits Cricket, a conversational AI built on Llama 3.1, which acts as an interpret to the DJ's instructions — translating natural language and commands into system actions, so the machine understands what the DJ wants.

Philosophy

Cricket is a bridge between natural language and machine action. Cricket interprets what the DJ means — translating intent into system behaviour so the session stays fluid and human. The project explores AI as a tool rather than an author: transparent, low-overhead, and in service of a creative decision. Free and open-source, under the AGPL license, it is built for community use — bars, raves, collectives — wherever music is shared. Underlying all of it is a commitment to ecological design: a generative system that is alive, but light.
